About SPACE

We are a Hertfordshire-based charity committed to empowering and supporting neurodivergent children, young people, and their families through a range of specialist programmes and services.

As part of our work, we deliver targeted employment-focused support designed to help neurodivergent individuals develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to move towards work, volunteering, or further opportunities.

About the role

This post is hosted and employed by Hertsmere Mencap. The successful candidate will be contracted and paid by Hertsmere Mencap and will work in partnership with SPACE Hertfordshire to deliver this programme.

Hours: 12 hours per week, 1 years fixed term

📍 Location: Hertfordshire-wide, including Stanstead Abbotts and Hertsmere

💰 Salary: £18 per hour

📅 Closing date: 13th March 2026, 5pm (however we may close this earlier)

Key Responsibilities

As our Employment Skills Trainer, you will play a key role in delivering our structured employment training programme in conjunction with Hertsmere Mencap.

You will:

  • Deliver our 8-week employment skills course in an engaging and accessible way
  • Support learners to develop practical, real-world employability skills
  • Create an inclusive, supportive learning environment
  • Adapt delivery style to meet differing learner needs
  • Deliver sessions confidently and independently
  • Work closely with the Employment Support Advisor
  • Contribute to positive learner outcomes and progression
  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to learners to reinforce learning and build confidence
  • Offer workplace mentoring to support the application of skills in real-world settings
  • Develop relationships with employers and identify suitable work opportunities
  • Actively seek appropriate work experience or placement opportunities for participants

Requirements and skills

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about inclusion and learner development
  • Has experience delivering training or structured sessions
  • Is a confident, clear, and engaging communicator
  • Can motivate and support diverse learners
  • Is organised, reliable, and adaptable
  • Has an understanding of, or interest in, neurodiversity
  • Brings energy, empathy, and a supportive approach

Essential:

  • Experience or skills in training / group delivery
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

Desirable:

  • Experience or understanding of recruitment / employment pathways
