School may have been out for the summer but here at SPACE HQ we continued to run lots of events and activities to keep our families busy.
There were four pottery painting sessions over the course of the holidays and we saw so much passion and creativity from our pottery artists – brushes, fingertips, handprints – anything goes. There were some lovely personalised gifts created that we know will be treasured for years to come as well as decorations for living rooms, bedrooms and more.
We also had a fantastic SPACE to Game summer session at Geek Retreat in Welwyn Garden City.
It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying games including Warhammer, Pokemon, Exploding kittens and more – we especially loved being able to introduce them to some new games and experiences with likeminded peers!
Lending SPACE was open all through the Summer Holidays and as well as our regular Monday, Wednesday and Saturday morning sessions we also held one of our popular holiday open days. Over twenty families came to see us to try out resources and do some arts and crafts – it was lovely to catch up with regulars as well as see lots of new faces.
We spent an absolutely glorious morning playing outdoors in the August sunshine at The Patch.
Families also enjoyed a lovely time exploring the Cedars Nature Centre Zoo and seeing all the resident animals, before an exclusive hour’s meet and greet session with Ranger Stu and some of the animals.
We saw lots more young drivers overcome their nerves and enjoy what was for many their first experience behind the wheel at our regular Driving Experiences, fearless aerial gymnasts swung and posed their way through a brilliant afternoon enjoying lots of sensory regulation at Studio Fly, and our Lego enthusiasts showed endless creativity and building prowess at our Lego clubs.
Our young SPACE artists celebrated summer and made us all dream of beach holidays with their amazing paintings of sandcastles.
And Blondie Brownies were served up in our online cooking session. Now they really do look good enough to eat!
And we had another brilliant morning at DJ’s Play Jungle for our bi-monthly SPACE exclusive softplay session. The children and young people had so much fun and plenty of their adults were getting in on the action too – the slides in particular had a great workout!
We hope that the return, or start, of school is going well for you all but if like many of the families in our private Facebook Group you are experiencing after school meltdowns – or after school restraint collapse as it is also called you may find some of the approaches and strategies suggested by SPACE parents in our group and the SPACE team to support your children and yourself helpful.
