ADHD and Autism Services
QbCheck
SPACE is a certified provider of the QbCheck.
The QbCheck is an ADHD assessment tool that can contribute to the diagnosis of ADHD. It is a computer based test for people aged 7+, that objectively measures the three core characteristics of ADHD – activity, inattention and impulsivity.
At SPACE, QbChecks are administered by one of our Chartered Clinical Psychologists or Specialist Advisory Teachers. You can find out more about QbChecks and make an appointment with SPACE here.

Dyslexia Screenings (for children and young people aged 7-16)
Available for children and young people between 7 and 16 years old.
Many children who are autistic and/or have ADHD find literacy difficult. We are offering individual consultations of up to 1 hour and 15 minutes if you have any worries that your child may be experiencing difficulties with either reading, writing and/or spelling.
The session will involve a consultation that explores your concerns as well as your child’s strengths, needs and learning history. Possible strategies or support that may help will also be discussed, followed by a screening for any signs that may indicate a risk of dyslexia (this is NOT a full diagnostic assessment). A full report will be shared with you within two weeks.
Parents/carers will need to bring along their child’s reading book along to the appointment.
Dyslexia: Full Diagnostic Assessment (for children and young people aged 8-18)
We are pleased to be offering full dyslexia diagnostic assessments. A full assessment can last for up to four hours and will take place in your child’s school/college or in your home.
Our assessor is a qualified, British Dyslexia Association and AMBDA registered assessor and has over 25 years experience of SEN teaching and consultancy.
Each report will identify your child’s strengths and difficulties and include education advice or recommendations for onward referrals (if needed).
Recent eye tests and hearing checks are essential before bringing your child to the appointment. If you are unsure if a full diagnostic assessment is right for your child, please contact services@spaceherts.org.uk requesting a free, no obligation conversation or book an appointment for a dyslexia screening.
A full report will be shared with you within 4 weeks.
Occupational Therapy Services
Occupational Therapy Consultations
We are offering an occupational therapy consultation service. This will involve a 45 minute consultation, bespoke to the needs of the individual child with a level 3 sensory integration qualified Occupational Therapist who works with children and young people who have sensory processing, neurological and physical difficulties.
Parents/carers will receive a strategy and advice sheet specific to their child, and have the opportunity to discuss and plan the required support needed.
Occupational Therapy Assessments
Our Occupational Therapy assessments support families going through the EHCP process or families simply wanting to understand how to better support their child at home and school. The clinical assessment will assess your child to identify any concerns or difficulties and how they impact upon daily occupations, such as handwriting, play, movement, balance and self care.
The clinical assessments are done by a level 3 sensory integration qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) specialising in paediatrics.
It can take between 1.5 to 2 hours to complete a full assessment. The results will be used to complete a comprehensive report and recommendations for support. You will also have the opportunity to discuss any questions you have once you have received the report.
Find out more and book your appointment here.
Educational Psychology Services
Educational Psychology Consultation
Our Educational Psychology consultations involve an initial meeting with a qualified Educational Psychologist. Each consultation will be 45 minutes and is bespoke to the needs of each individual child. Time will be spent speaking with you as a parent/carer about your child’s needs.
Parents/carers will receive strategies and an action plan specific to their child. Please note: this appointment is for parent/carers only, we ask that children do not attend. Find out more and book an appointment here.
