SPACE Hertfordshire 2024 Conference

‘Being Me: Supporting your child to understand their neurodiversity’ – a hit with everyone!

The atmosphere was filled with excitement and enthusiasm on Wednesday during our annual SPACE Hertfordshire Conference. Themed ‘Being Me: Supporting Your Child to Understand Their Neurodiversity’, the event took place at the Cromwell Hotel in Stevenage. It was a resounding success, with a sold-out crowd of over 100 parents and carers from our community.

One of the high points of the day was the overwhelming positive feedback. 100% of attendees confirmed they felt more confident in supporting their child/young person to understand their neurodiversity after listening to our speakers. Not only that, they will implement strategies learned from the conference at home. making the day truly impactful.

The conference offered a platform for neurodivergent children and young people to share their personal insights through a series of engaging videos.

Topics ranged from ‘What Neurodiversity Means to Me’, ‘Challenges I Face’, to navigating ‘Tricky Situations’ and ‘Friendships’. In total, 11 thought-provoking videos were showcased, offering attendees a window into the real-life experiences of neurodivergent children and young people.

Throughout the day, we also heard from insightful and inspirational Keynote Speakers, Joe Wells, Dr Sophia Christophi and Chris Russell who delivered sessions on being neurodivergent and how to support your neurodivergent child or young person.

Joe Wells, an autistic writer and comedian, shared his perspective with the powerful statement: “I don’t necessarily think being neurodivergent is a superpower, but I do think neurodiversity is a superpower.”

The day was extremely thought-provoking and uplifting – sparking conversations and celebrating neurodiversity.

“It’s always a joy to be in a big room full of people who ‘get it’. Whilst most parents and carers feel they are on their own, they are not, there are organisations like SPACE, supporting and bringing everyone together. Thank you!”

We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, contributed to the success of the day, and supported our Charity Raffle. All monies raised on the day will further continue to support our vital work.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year for another inspiring and empowering event!
